Inman Connect SF 2018 – The First Inman CMO Connect

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF.
Meghan Cheeney, Director of Marketing

Inman Connect conferences have been gathering the top minds in real estate for over twenty years. Brad Inman, and the Inman brand (“the industry’s leading source of real estate information”) blaze the trail for these conferences and challenge proptech leaders, marketing leaders, executive, brokers and agents to develop their best ideas in this industry.

The full Connect conference is known as the secret sauce of the real estate industry, drawing a who’s who of agents, brokers, and executives from across the nation. You never know who you’ll be sitting next to and where that connection could take your career and your business.
(From Inman Event Description)

Inman Connect San Francisco (ICSF 2018) took place at the Hilton Union Square hotel in San Francisco and was a week’s worth of intriguing debate, in-depth sessions, exclusive networking events, and time to catch up with industry friends from all over the world. Key events included the popular Hacker Connect, Indie Broker Summit, and the first-ever CMO Connect – geared toward executive marketing leaders in the real estate world.

Imprev had the honor of sponsoring this inaugural session at Inman Connect. President and Chief Revenue Officer, Bill Yaman, spoke during a session entitled, “3 Marketing Problems, 3 Solutions.” Here’s a video snippet of his presentation.

I was excited to have sponsored the first CMO Connect. It was such a great experience, to connect with the industry’s best and brightest about what challenges and opportunities we all face. And really, how our listing automation is changing the way we think about marketing.”
Bill Yaman, President and Chief Revenue Officer

Acclaimed advertiser Bob Hoffman started off the session by delivering a provocative view on the current state of digital advertising (my mind is still reeling from that one!). Fantastic leaders like David Marine, SVP Marketing for Coldwell Banker, Mitch Robinson, SVP Marketing and Communications for eXp Realty, and Matt Spangler, Chief Creative Officer at Compass, were involved with on-stage discussions during CMO Connect, with many insightful takeaways presented throughout the sessions. Insightful advice and poignant presentations were also given by creatives such as Matthew Luhn, an accomplished storyteller that worked with Pixar Animation Studios.

Pro tip: An inspiring story has five key points. Everyone can use these points, whether you’re creating a brand story, marketing campaign, or business presentation (even a listing presentation!).

  1. The Hook
      a.  Something unusual, unexpected right away.
  2. Change / Transformation
      a.  Good or bad!
  3. Connection
      a.  Explore a universal theme to connect with your audience.
  4. Authenticity
      a.  Don’t be clever; be honest, vulnerable.
  5. Structure
      a.  Beginning, middle, end. Problem, solution, success.

What many conference goers deemed a “not-to-be-missed event,” jam-packed into just one week in San Francisco, Inman Connect ‘18 ran the gamut of topics for those of us in proptech.

This was my first time attending Inman Connect…. So much more exciting than I predicted! I felt like a kid in a candy shop having the opportunity to listen in person to some of the biggest names in real estate share their inspired insight. Everyone who attended seemed to have the same goal in mind… to CONNECT!
Charlie Webb, Account Executive

“ICSF was an extremely well-structured event that delivered valuable insights and best practices to everyone who works in real estate. Imprev’s clients were visible in a number of ways and it was great to hear directly from some of them regarding our impact on their business and to get a better understanding of our footprint and impression in the industry overall.”
Joel DeWitt, Director of Customer Success

“Inman was an amazing week for me and for Imprev. Inman Connect is so appropriately named for the manner in which it brings together my clients, prospects and partners in one location. Between all of those upbeat discussions and the positive feedback from key industry people, the week couldn’t have been more uplifting.”
Pete Weller, Senior Account Executive

Significant Points from Our Team

From Joel DeWitt, Customer Success

  • “You are your business’s most important asset.” This quote in a session was in reference to building a brokerage or team beyond just having sales members, but rather how developing marketable unique skills in your team members was a key component of success.

From Charlie Webb, Account Executive

  • 3 great tips from the top 10 trends presented by Better Homes & Gardens Real Estate CEO Sherry Chris and managing partner Joe Rand:
    • “Data is the new currency of business.”
    • Seeking perfection will slow your business down. Time is of the essence. Innovate and keep growing.
    • Culture will separate you from the crowd.

From June Laves, Marketing Manager

  • Short and sweet, Vija Williams made a great point that we can all take to heart when it comes to success.
“Every agent in this room, you need to write down 1 word today – and that word is ADAPT.”

From all of us at Imprev, we look forward to networking with the greatest minds again next year!
